Reviewer checklist
How to review a potential screening match.
By Streak Technologies LTD · Updated
Potential matches need identity comparison and source context. Use this checklist to structure the handoff from a screening search to your organization’s documented review process.
1. Establish the source and the subject
Record the person or organization being reviewed, the search terms and the time of the check. Identify the list that produced the result and its classification. Different source categories should not be treated as interchangeable findings.
2. Compare identifiers, not just the name
Look at full names and aliases alongside birth dates, nationality, registration details or other identifiers available for the subject. Record agreements, contradictions and missing fields. A missing field does not resolve a mismatch, and a common name can identify several different people.
OFAC’s guidance describes reviewing the full entry and comparing available information when assessing potential name matches. Use the relevant authority’s guidance and your organization’s procedures for the actual decision. Read the source guidance.
3. Interpret the rating correctly
In Sancticheck, confidence stars describe similarity to the search. They do not represent identity probability, a risk score or an instruction to reject a customer. Open the profile and inspect the facts attributed to each source.
When a profile combines records, their origins remain visible. Repeated information from providers is not automatically independent evidence of an additional designation.
4. Record the outcome in your review process
Preserve enough context for another reviewer to understand the conclusion. A useful review record can include:
- Subject details and the search terms used.
- Source names, reference numbers and relevant dates.
- Identifying details that agree, differ or remain unknown.
- The reason for resolving a false positive or escalating uncertainty.
- Reviewer, review date and any follow-up required by policy.
This is a workflow checklist, not a claim that every review or approval step is automated in the application. Confirm case-management and reporting requirements with the team.
5. Revisit information when circumstances change
Your policy should determine when another review is needed, including changes to a customer’s identity information or the information available from a source. Keeping portfolio records up to date is separate from having an automated rescreening schedule.
